How did we arrive at these solutions?

COntext

Our project began in an ArtCenter course, where we were tasked with researching and optimizing the experience of a public space.

After exploring various options, we chose museums because they offer a unique blend of public and private experiences.

  1. Struggle with Captions

Many museum captions are either too complex or lack engaging storytelling, making it difficult for visitors to connect with the artwork.

“After the museum visit, I don’t really remember learning much or even remember what kind of artwork they had.”

  1. Lack of Retention & Recall

Museum visits often don’t leave a lasting impression, resulting in visitors struggling to recall information or specific artworks afterward.

“I think it would be great to have a place where people could create something or people come inspired, and they could paint on a wall or something.”

  1. Desire for Creative Expression

Visitors want interactive spaces where they can express their creativity and feel inspired to participate actively in the museum environment.

“Museum experiences often feel like one-way communication, with no real interaction—just boring and passive.”

Museum experiences are often perceived as one-sided and lack interactivity, leaving visitors feeling bored and disconnected from the exhibits.

Our Vision

How might we create a more personalized and engaging museum experience that demystifies artwork narratives and encourages active participation, leaving visitors with valuable insights and memorable encounters?

persona

We developed persona to represent our target users, helping us understand their needs, behaviors, and pain points, shaping our approach to create more meaningful features.

Current Journey Map

Additionally, we used a user journey map to visualize the typical museum experience, identifying opportunities for improvement and moments where users might feel disengaged.
